Both movies earned tens of millions of dollars in theaters outside of India. A popular success in both countries, the film has sparked much discussion about Indo-Pak relations, and has even put a spotlight on a real-life case that mirrors the film's story about a speech-impaired girl who accidentally winds up on the wrong side of the international border needing help to find her way home. An important theme of Bajrangi Bhaijaan is the idea that India and Pakistan ought to find ways to peacefully reconcile their differences and improve their relationship as close, and closely intertwined, neighbors. Good Stories Have Power That Transcends Borders. All of these risks were essential to making the two films work, and all of them paid off beautifully. Khan also took the risk of sharing most of his screen time with a 6 year-old little girl, the delightful and well cast Harshaali Malhotra. Bajrangi Bhaijaan and its star took major creative risks too, with Salman Khan taking a major departure from his traditional screen persona and image to play a rather humble and simple character who is motivated mainly by faith and religious devotion. It also took major technical risks, stretching to accomplish feats in visual effects and digital film production that had never before been attempted in India. Baahubali took a major monetary risk with its reported $40 million budget (about half of which was spent on the first film in the two-part series), the most expensive movie in Indian history. Both Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan took big creative and financial risks. But Bajrangi Bhaijaan proved that with an injection of originality in the hands of a skilled director, Bollywood movies can transcend their bounds and their traditional core audiences to appeal to theatergoers the world over. By the same token, many critics have lately held the Bollywood cinema in low esteem, criticizing it for formulaic storytelling and overreliance on music and dance sequences. Creativity Can Come From Bollywood Too.By grossing several billion rupees all across India, and many more around the world, Baahubali proved that non-Hindi films can be just as viable and valuable as their Bollywood counterparts. In reading the Bollywood press one could be excused for thinking that Hindi films are the only ones that matter. As an outsider looking in to the Indian movie market, I’m continually surprised and disappointed by the amount of disregard, disrespect and prejudice that exists between Bollywood and the various other filmmaking regions of India. Indian producers should take note that when it comes to story, audiences are paying close attention, and investments in quality storytelling can pay handsome dividends. Without this careful attention to story, neither film would have achieved anywhere near the level of success it enjoyed in India and abroad. But both films also took great care in their screenplays and their storytelling (both stories, incidentally, were developed from the ideas of the same man), presenting enduringly memorable characters engaged in compelling, dramatic situations with high stakes and thus high dramatic impact for filmgoers. And with Salman Khan and Prabhas as their respective lead actors, Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan both certainly benefited from star power. Indian film producers take a great deal of criticism, much of it well deserved, that they place far more emphasis on who is going to star in their movies than on what characters and stories those actors will inhabit. It’s very difficult to survive,” she added. Aaj main duniya ke rehem aur karam par hoon (Today, I am at the mercy of the people). However, a fire broke out in the warehouse and we lost everything. I had invested a major chunk of my earnings in a business set-up by my husband and me. I had never imagined that I would ever be at a crossroads in life. I need financial help till I get back on my feet.I have earned a lot during my heydays and would help those in need. "I want to start working because I need the money, but the condition of my leg is deteriorating and I don’t know if I will be able to walk again. I have undergone an angioplasty in the past and I am battling other ailments, too,” Sunita Shirole told a leading daily. If that wasn’t bad enough, I fell twice in the hospital and fractured my left leg. Unfortunately, I had to be hospitalised around that time with a kidney infection and acute knee pain. I used up all my savings to survive during this period.
